The only son among ten siblings, Mr. Mishra completed his school and college from Cuttack, Orissa the place of his birth and also the headquarters of the OSL Group. His father Mr. Rabindra Nath Mishra was a keen laureate, whose Oriya and Bengali books were very popular in schools. Mr. Mahimananda Mishra played a long innings in student politics. While studying in the famous Christ College and Cuttack's Law College he was elected as the president of the students union.

Instead of going for a secured government job Mr. Mishra dared to tread on a path, which had not been traveled ever before. There were numerous hurdles on the way of being an entrepreneur but so confident he was of his ability and success that he continued relentlessly on his chosen path, only to emerge as the undisputed winner. Mr. Mishra is now the stevedore giant of not only Orissa but also of the entire country. Being the Managing Director of ORISSA STEVEDORES LIMITED popularly known as OSL he has tasted success in varied fields ranging from stevedoring, Real Estates, Civil Aviation to Hospitality, Entertainment, Steels to Education and Mining.

Mr. Mishra had the privilege to receive encouragement from the then chairman of Paradip Port Trust and entered into Stevedoring at Paradip Port during the mid 70s. Mr. Mishra got his first break in 1979 when he successfully completed the shipment of Care Foods for shipping company American President's Line, creating a record of sorts.
